AMF Leeds Senior Singles (Team England)

There was some success for local bowlersin the first Senior Team Ranking event of the 2009 season at AMF Leeds on the weekend of Sat/Sun 10th/11th January.

Scoring was very high with all the six men who made the round robin final averaging over 215.

The winners were Irene O'Hara and Peter Cornwall from Surrey.

Peter eased home to victory over Gary Barlow by a margin of 31pins.

Irene ran things a bit closer whenshe tied with Kaz Barfoot at the end of the round robin which resulted in them playing a further one gamedecider with Irene running out the victor.

Just in case you did not know they are husband and wife and this is was a rare occassion when a husband and wife have won their respective sections in a Team England Ranking event.

I have been reminded that the first husband and wife pairing to win a senior event on the same weekend were Meg and Allen Jordache.

Well done to everyone.

AMF Senior Bowlers Club Masters Finals

Congratulations to Al Jenkins for retaining the coveted master title at AMF Nottingham on Sunday 7th December. This is the 6th time he had won the title in the history of this prestigeous event.

There was a strong Yorkshire Senior Men's presence in the 16 man knockout final as Al was joined by Ken Wray, Ron Oldfield, Les Grant and Alan Bennett. A special mention goes to Gary Barlow who bowled extremely well in the qualifying round to lead the tournament going into the knockout stages with an 8 game qualifying average of 230.

Unfortunately, Gary, Ken, Ron and Les all went out of the tournament in the first knockout match leaving the two "Al's" to go on to contest the championship final match.

The match was a topsy-turvy affair with Alan Bennett taking a lead in the first game only to see it disappear in the second after missing two single pins. This allowed Al Jenkins to go on and claim the title by a single pin.

Well done Al.
